Hale Pele, a new tiki bar in the former site of Portland’s well-loved Thatch has its grand opening tonight.
Now in the capable hands of Blair Reynolds of B.G.Reynolds’ Hand-Crafted Syrups fame, the bar has a rich menu of 19 of the most popular (and delicious) tiki drinks known to mankind.

I can’t attest to the quality of the drinks, but for atmosphere and appearance, it appears that the Sip ‘n Dip Lounge in Great Falls, Montana, outshines even Ft. Lauderdale’s Wreck Bar by combining an underground window with a view of live mermaids cavorting in the hotel swimming pool with a full-on tiki bar interior.

Minnie’s Restaurant in Modesto, California has been going strong since 1954 as thusly is full of vintage tiki decor. Over the past two months, theives have stolen 10-15 3-foot high tikis from the back patio area. Each of the statues are valued at between $500-$1000 each (one of the tikis is pictured here).

Apparently not everything in Vegas stays in Vegas. A few weeks ago, the neon sign attached to the beautiful neo-tiki bar Frankie’s Tiki Room was stolen off of the side of the building.

When Trader Vic’s Scottsdale location closed back in July, the owners revealed that they would start auctioning off the tiki, mugs, and memorabilia from the location sometime in the near future, either on Craigslist or eBay.
