First signs of Trader Vic’s return to Chicago revealed!

Trader Vic’s Chicago tiki installation The Chicago Tribune has published the first evidence of Trader's Vic's long-promised return to Chicago—the installation of a large tiki in front of the new location.

The Palmer House location closed in 2005 after 48 years of business. A quick replacement was promised, but it took 3 years to start construction at Vic's new address: 1030 N. State Street, which will open no earlier than November.

I am a condo owner upstairs at the Newberry Plaza and we all want to welcome Trader Vic’s! A lot of us love the Tiki god head out front and I’m dieing to eat the crispy duck (yummy). We are all glad to see them return to Chicago.

I have been in the building for over 25 years and remember the wonderful times I had in the space when it was Arne Morton’s. I have been to the space when it was the Grotto and it was ok but we all long for the days of when it was Arne Morton’s. A lot of think it’s a perfect space for Trader Vic’s.

I spoke to the doorman and he told me that one of the Chefs is from Smith & Wollensky and his Godfather was a manager at Arne’s. The other chef is from Gibson’s restaurant group and was the chef of RL. I love the Cajun rib eye from S&W and RL is a really nice lunch spot in the simmer. So I’m hoping they do a good job with the food.

The General Manager is an Indian gentleman who I meet when I stuck my nose in the restaurant when the big Giant Tiki god was being put up. His name is Pavlov if I’m not mistaken.

I just can’t wait to eat the Duck and the lamb and the Scorpion bowl. I can see the Tiki gods in the bar area and see glimpses of the workers and hear them cutting into the concrete to put in a BIG wheel chair elevator in. I have not been this excited to visit a Restaurant in a long time feels like I’m waiting for the BIG Summer Movie!
