Disney’s High School Musical 2 going tiki?

Disney's made-for-TV movie High School Musical has been a huge hit for the company, spawning concert tours, theme park shows, soundtracks, and a slew of merchandise.

The inevitable sequel, High School Musical 2 will be debuting on the Disney Channel this Friday, August 17, at 8/7c, and this latest chapter may inadvertently introduce tiki culture to the next generation: one of the movie's new songs is called Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, has an island feel, and name drops both "tiki" and "Pineapple Princess" (Annette Funicello's 1960 hit written by the Sherman Brothers).

According to early reports, the sequence in the movie that uses the song may have been dropped, but that hasn't stopped technologically-savvy teens from posting "videos" of the song on You Tube (see above).

Update: The Humuhumunukunukuapua'a number was held back for inclusion on the DVD, as an incentive to purchase the disc when its released later this year.
