Disney’s cocktail lounge at the Aulani resort gets a name: “The `Olelo Room”
Disney's Aulani resort in Hawaii is still under construction, but details are starting to get released about the facility in order to entice visitors.
Tiki bar and cocktail nerds will be interested to hear that the resort's lounge has received a name and a theme: The `Olelo Room. For unaware haoles (me included), "`olelo" means "language," and besides mixing drinks, the Hawaiian-speaking staff (along with signs and labels throughout the space) will teach patrons Hawaiian words.
Yes, there will be tropical drinks on the menu, as well as "classic cocktails with a twist," Mojitos and margaritas, fruit-infused sangria, flights of Hawaiian beer or new-world wines, and freshly made tropical lemonades and ice teas. The bar will also feature a `ike mua, or drink of the day.
Here's hoping the resort breaks free from the mold of the standardized cocktail menu which was adopted by all Walt Disney World resorts and the cruise lines which killed several of the Polynesian Resort's unique and delicious drinks.
