Limited edition Huggies Hawaiian diapers available from May through July

Huggies Limited Edition Hawaiian Diapers I almost peed myself laughing when I saw these today in my local Target store — Huggies has released a “limited edition” Hawaiian Diaper with tropical designs for the summer.

Available May—July of 2012, the “snug-fit” diapers are available in multiple sizes (although adult-sized is not an option). If my wife and I hadn’t just started our son potty training, I’d have bought a box of them already.

Hint: If you sign up for delivery through Amazon’s diaper subscription service, it usually knocks another couple of bucks of the price. Plus, you get the convenience of a box of diapers showing up at your door on a reoccurring basis. Lalaloopsy goes Hawaiian with Mango Tiki Wiki doll

MGA dolls has released a tikirific doll for girls in their rag doll-esque Lalaloopsy line. Named Mango Tiki Wiki, the doll stands 13 inches tall and comes with a pet — a parrot made out of a pineapple. According to the doll’s storyline, Mango Tiki Wiki is an island girl who loves the sunshine. Her favorite hobbies are carving coconuts, listening to music, and making fresh flower bracelets.

Tiki R2D2 wishes you a happy Star Wars day

Today is the anniversary of the release of the movie that changed a lot of our lives, Star Wars. Putting aside all of the “May the 4th Be With You” nonsense, it’s a good excuse nevertheless to showcase this nicely done primitive take on R2D2 by artist Adriaan Mol on display in Orlando.

Drums of our Forefathers tiki mug now available from Tiki Farm

Tiki mug maker Tiki Farm has an amazing new release out today, entitled Drum of the Forefathers. Designed by artist Tank Standing Buffalo, the 4-sided mug was inspired by the Edgar Leeteg “Tahitian Drummer” black velvet painting and features stylized versions of the tiki god seen on that painting along with interpretations of the Trader Vic’s Papua New Guinea tiki logo, Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon Tiki Expedition tiki logo and an early Don the Beachcomber tiki.

The mug measures 7.25 inches in height and has a 23 ounce capacity.

Double Trouble is a tiki in Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure

Now this is embarrassing: this weekend my 11-year old son asked me if I knew about Double Trouble, a character in the super-popular Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure game who is a tiki. I didn’t. Needless to say, off we were to Google.

Skylanders is a video game for Wii, XBox, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS, Windows and Mac with an ingenious twist guaranteed to empty wallets -— to unlock characters in the game, players have to purchase plastic figurines and place them on a “portal” to transport them into the game. RFID chips in the figures and a receiver in the portal allow the toys to communicate with the game. The “starter set” comes with the game, portal accessory and 3 figures for around $65; additional figures cost around $9 a pop. The game is well-reviewed and seems well suited to the 8-10 age range, although other ages get enjoyment out of the game as well.
